TL; DR

  • Microsoft has quietly re-released the Windows 11 PC Health Check app.
  • The app is designed to let current Windows 10 PC users know if their laptop or desktop can be upgraded to Windows 11.
  • The app will be released just two weeks before Windows 11 officially launches.

The app is apparently available to anyone who wants to download and use it, like this XDA developer. Microsoft previously released a version of the app for members of its Windows Insider Testing Problem earlier this summer, but later retired it. There are three versions of the app that you can download: one for 64-bit Windows PCs, one for 32-bit Windows PCs and ARM-based PCs, and finally one for Windows 10 for S-mode PCs.

The app tells you whether the processor, graphics card and other hardware of your Windows 10 PC are compatible with the update to Windows 11. Microsoft previously said that users should have at least an 8th Intel CPU from 7th models, and at least 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage space are required. Finally, it must support UEFI Secure Boot and TPM 2.0.

Microsoft has already stated that if your PC’s CPU technically doesn’t support the upgrade, you can still force it to accept Windows 11 by installing it via an ISO file. It must have a 64-bit CPU (no 32-bit CPUs permitted) with a clock frequency of at least 1 GHz, as well as 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of memory.
