Don’t fret if you want the Google Pixel 5 live wallpapers – they are now downloadable. Third-party developer Pranav Pandey published it (via XDA developer) for most reasonably modern Android phones, albeit with a few catches.

The collection revolves around two backgrounds, Moving Shadows (shown on the right) and Stepping Stones (center), each of which offers several variations to suit your taste. Moving shadows is more abstract and involves a mix of colorful objects whose shadows change over the course of the day. Stepping Stones includes multiple background colors, plus light and dark themes for a rock sculpture that wobbles when you tilt your phone.
There’s also evidence of a third background image, Conveyor Belt (left), but it doesn’t appear to be ready beyond a still image preview.

The Google Pixel 5 live wallpapers should work on phones running Android 7.0 Nougat or higher, although there are some limitations. To achieve this compatibility, the standard wallpaper kit does not change the color of your system interface. Ambient mode is off by default, so it may not work well with a display that is always on. Pandey only tested the animated backgrounds with an Xperia Z5.
If it works as promised, you don’t have to search for the latest Google phone to see it. And don’t forget that these aren’t your only options – there is a larger collection of still images available if the live images don’t suit your style.
