Doom for Android gets 120fps, 16:9 native resolution
- Doom for Android (and Doom II) just received a new update.
- The update offers 120 fps gameplay, a native 16: 9 resolution and mods via the DeHackEd system.
- Each game still costs just $ 4.99 for lifetime ad-free access.
While it wasn’t the first of its kind, the 1993 first-person shooter game Doom pretty much defined the genre. Recently, Bethesda brought us Doom for Android, as well as the excellent sequel to that game. However, earlier this week Bethesda released a major update for both titles.
Now Doom and Doom II can be played at up to 120 frames per second. You obviously need a phone with a refresh rate of at least 120Hz to get this smoothness, but even phones with a refresh rate of 90Hz now get smoother gameplay.

In addition, Doom for Android now has a native 16: 9 resolution, which enables more immersivity. Combined with the FPS upgrade, Doom and Doom II look better than ever. If you could go back in time and tell a kid in 1993 that you would play Doom on your pocket computer at this quality level, their minds would likely be overwhelmed, just like the Cyberdemon you just tore apart with a chainsaw.
Doom for Android: DeHackEd
Finally, both Doom and Doom II are ready for mods. DeHackEd-based add-ons allow you to change the games in many different ways. For example, you can make the monsters (or your weapons) faster, which can either increase or decrease the difficulty of the game.
Both Doom and Doom II are pretty cheap: only $ 4.99 each on the Google Play Store. This gives you lifetime access to the full versions of the games with no ads or in-app purchases. If you already own either game, you should already have the latest updates at no extra charge.
