Doogee S97 Pro launches with built-in laser rangefinder, 8,500mAh battery
TL; DR
- The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Doogee has launched a new robust smartphone.
- The Doogee S97 Pro contains an 8,500 mAh battery, a laser rangefinder and two programmable buttons.
- It’s available for $ 199 during a pre-sale.
Rugged smartphones often offer interesting tech and ridiculous specs, and the new Doogee S97 Pro is no exception. The device is the Chinese company’s latest entry into the rugged smartphone arena and contains loads of toys.
Since it is a robust smartphone, the S97 Pro primarily has a hardened black cover with red, orange or silver inserts. It’s pretty easy on the eye considering its predecessor, the garish design of the S96 Pro. This case also features IP68 water and dust resistance, MIL-STD-810G certification, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the front.
A punch-hole camera with a 16-megapixel sensor sits in a 6.39-inch HD + LCD. The MediaTek Helio G95 provides the device with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of expandable storage.
The big (pun intended) feature is the 8,500 mAh battery, which Doogee claims is good for three days. The S97 Pro’s battery is larger than most tablets and around 2,200 mAh larger than its predecessor. This should make it a hit with backpackers, travelers, and trekkers. Charging is done through 33W wired fast charging and 10W wireless charging.
However, this is not the Doogee S97 Pro’s trump card. The company claims it will be the first device with a dedicated built-in laser rangefinder. It is sufficient for up to 40 meters and can also measure the volume or area of a room. This recording means that the S97 Pro does without the infrared night vision camera of the S96 Pro. For some, it will be a painful failure, but for artisans, it is likely a worthy deal.
A 48 MP Samsung snapper headlines on the back. An 8 MP ultra-wide camera, 2 MP macro shooter, and 2 MP portrait lens are also provided.
Other niceties include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, two customizable buttons and support for GPS, Galileo, Glonass and Beidou. NFC occurs as well as Android 11.
Doogee S97 Pro price and availability
The Doogee S97 Pro will be available on Aliexpress starting June 25 for $ 329. Until then, however, you can purchase the device as part of a pre-release promotion for $ 199. Even at full price, it’s a fair competitor to the Cat S42 and the new Motorola Defy.
