Don’t hold your breath for the Galaxy Z Flip 2 to get a bigger battery

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip was one of the more innovative designs of 2020, but if there’s one area that the Samsung device needs improvement, it’s the battery. The Galaxy Z Flip and the Z Flip 5G both offer a 3,300 mAh battery, which is definitely on the small side these days. Unfortunately, it looks like the Galaxy Z Flip 2 won’t be any better.

Korean news agency The Elec reports that the Galaxy Z Flip 2 (or whatever the 2021 model is called) will feature the same dual battery system as the older devices. Specifically, the website notes that there is a 903 mAh battery on the top of the phone, while there is a 2,300 mAh battery on the bottom half of the device.

This results in a capacity of 3,203 mAh, which largely corresponds to the capacity of the Galaxy Z Flip and the Z Flip 5G of 3,300 mAh. So if you are looking for a significantly improved battery life, you will likely be disappointed here. If I say that, The Elec claims that more efficient processors, RAM, and storage will help get more juice out of it.

We thought the Galaxy Z Flip 4G had mediocre endurance when we tested it early last year. Former Android Authority Reviewer David Imel noted that he had five hours to turn on the screen and said the phone would be from 10am to 10am the next morning. Expect a shorter lifespan with the 5G model as well.

Hopefully Samsung will improve the Galaxy Z Flip 2 in other areas if battery capacity isn’t one of them. We thought the Z Flip 4G could handle much faster charging speeds too (it hits a top speed of 15W). So here you can see improvements.
