Don a fedora and raid some tombs in this week’s free game from Epic
If you’re a player – or only occasionally visit the Cheapskate sites – you probably know that Epic Games is giving away at least one free game every Thursday. It’s Thursday and this week Epic is offering a $ 16 turn-based strategy game path. You can download it anytime between now and Thursday, June 25th. Once you get it, you can keep the game forever.
Pathway takes place in North Africa at the height of World War II in an Indiana Jones-like universe. They and a group of other mercenaries band together to raid graves, fight Nazis, and prevent magical artifacts from falling into the wrong hands, saving the world. Mechanically, the game plays very much like the classic strategy XCOM. (I call it “XCOM of the Lost Ark” because I think I’m weird.)
This is not the most popular game. CNET’s sister site, GameSpot, reviewed Pathway’s release last year and found it fair. It was rated with 6 out of 10 points. The game lacks variety, which leads the reviewer to the conclusion: “Pathway looks and sounds good, it nailed down the pulp attitude it aims for, and of course it is always fun to shoot Nazis. But the more I played , the more the cracks appeared and the more equal everything became. ”
Its worth it? You have until Thursday to decide.
