Does the Fitbit Charge 5 use the same charger as the Fitbit Charge 4?
Wondering if your Fitbit Charge 4 charger will work with the new Charge 5? The unfortunate answer is no, it won’t. The consolation is that your new device doesn’t have to juicing often. Depending on what else you have, you may still have an extra charger on hand.
The Fitbit Charge 5 cannot use the Charge 4 charger
A number of significant hardware and software upgrades to the Fitbit Charge 5 could even get Charge 4 owners to take a second look. The changes from the former to the latter represent a significant leap for the Charge line, especially when compared to the smaller shift we’ve seen between the Fitbit Charge 3 and Charge 4. For better or for worse, the extensive updates mean saying goodbye to a certain compatibility.
One of the many changes to the new Fitbit Charge 5 is the proprietary charger. Dimensional adjustments (think thinner and slimmer) mean the device is incompatible with its predecessor’s charger. Instead, the Charge 5 comes with a magnetic charging cable that fits its smaller frame. The good news is that even with an AMOLED display and advanced sensors, users can enjoy the convenience of long battery life. According to Fitbit, the device will last up to seven days on a single charge.

The Fitbit Luxe charger is working
If you thought that Fitbit’s newest device would work as a direct successor to the Charge 4 charger, you are probably not alone. However, for users concerned about Fitbit’s e-waste management, there will be some overlap (just not where we expected). While some design elements of the Fitbit Charge 5 are borrowed from the higher end devices from Fitbit, the charger is borrowed from the Fitbit Luxe line. Fortunately, this means that the latest Fitbit tracker is compatible with Luxe chargers.
We’re still hoping that Fitbit will eventually streamline its chargers so they’re all interchangeable. In the meantime, make sure you have the right one for your device.
