Regardless of whether you have an Android or iOS device, most phones will be able to function as a digital wallet and mobile payment service in 2020 thanks to the integration of Apple, Google or Samsung Pay. This allows you to save your debit and credit card information on your phone and safely pay for personal purchases by holding them near a point of sale terminal. It’s a convenient, easy-to-use, and most importantly, safe way to pay for things.

Over the years, Google’s mobile payments platform has had various names. What started as Google Wallet in 2011 became Android Pay in 2015, before finally moving to Google Pay in 2018. In North America and other parts of the West, technology took off for use with the iPhone with the introduction of Apple. Now we’ve got to a point where it’s rare for a phone to ship without NFC and at least one mobile payment platform to be accessed.

connected: Google versus Apple and Samsung Pay

Of course, a large part of your decision about a digital wallet will depend on where you live. While availability has gotten much better in recent years, not all countries and financial institutions support Apple, Google, and Samsung Pay yet. As of 2020, Google’s mobile wallet will only be available in around 30 countries worldwide. In addition, not every feature of every mobile payment service is available in every country in which you can use this platform. For example, you can only use Samsung Pay for online purchases in Korea.
