Disney is creating a new show with Colin Kaepernick
If you’re fascinated by the story of former San Francisco 49er quarterback and activist Colin Kaepernick, that’s good news. Kaepernick’s life is recorded in a documentary series from ESPN films. He will also work with various creatives to produce stories that deal with race and social injustice for a variety of Disney properties: Disney Television, Hulu, Pixar, and The Undefeated.
“I am delighted to announce this historic partnership with Disney across all platforms to promote directors, creators, storytellers and producers of Black and Brown and to inspire youth with compelling and authentic perspectives,” said Kaepernick in a statement ( via Variety)).
“I look forward to sharing the documentaries about my life story, in addition to many other culturally significant projects that we are developing.”
The Kaepernick documentary will mix new interviews with invisible archive footage that captures the past few years of Kaepernick’s life after kneeling during the 2016 national anthem against racism. The next year, after a storm of supportive and critical reactions, Kaepernick became a free agent.
It will also be interesting to see what stories Kaepernick tells when it comes to Pixar, which has been criticized for its mostly white directors.
