TL; DR
- This week there were many reports of a new bug in the Google Clock app that caused set alarms not to go off as planned.
- The same reports claim that the usual troubleshooting methods don’t seem to fix this problem.
- This has led to many new one-star ratings for the app in the Google Play Store.
There are many people who rely on their smartphone apps to keep them informed of upcoming tasks. These include those like the standard Google Clock app, which is available on almost every Android phone. Now there seems to be a bug in the app that is causing many users to miss preset alarms.

The reports come from the most recent one-star ratings on the Google Clock app on the Play Store, as well as a news thread on Reddit. They claim that scheduled alarms will not go off and no notifications or sounds will appear. The reports come from many users of Pixel smartphones as well as phones from OnePlus, Oppo and others.
A review on the Play Store claims that the app only vibrated once and that user “lost my teaching job because I missed two morning classes”. The one-star reviews and the Reddit posts claim that the normal methods of troubleshooting the app, like uninstalling and reinstalling the app, clearing the cache, and changing settings, don’t seem to work.
For our part, we tested our Google Clock app and were unable to replicate the bug. However, the large number of complaints on the same subjects should by no means be disregarded. Hopefully, Google will send out a clock app update to fix this rather annoying but serious issue. In the meantime, if you use the app to remind you of some important tasks, you may want to download another clock or alarm app as a backup.
