Funny things on the horizon, but a beetle to crush first
It’s always a bad day when we find out about a vulnerability in our preferred operating system. This time it’s a Trojan called Grifthorse that’s buzzing around to steal your money.
- Grifthorse presents itself as a price and then asks you for your phone number.
- If you provide your phone number, you will be automatically subscribed to recurring SMS payments.
How to recognize the problem:
- This trojan has been found in dozens of apps and presents itself differently for each one, but in general you should be looking for an unexpected prize or a gift from an app that usually doesn’t give you gifts or prizes.
- Below is an example of just one implementation.
What do I do now?
- Are you still reading this? You should have already clicked the link above which will take you to our full list of all the affected apps, and then uninstalled them!
- Check your phone bill. If you’re seeing a strange subscription plan that you don’t know about, check with your provider to see if they can help you.
- Do you need a new app for this? We have hundreds of app lists to help you find the best of the best for many different uses.
- Last thought, when it comes to the internet, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Please practice safe witchcraft.
