Both the new Apple iPhone 13 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus have a retail price of $ 999. But here, too, as in previous years, Apple is doing less than Samsung on every device, suggests an analysis.

- For reference, the iPhone 12 Pro was priced at $ 548.50 (which you can see in the graph) while the Galaxy S20 Ultra was priced at $ 528.50 and the S10 Plus was valued at TechInsights with a material cost of $ 420.
- What we get here is the estimated cost of construction, which is 57% of the retail price of the iPhone 13 Pro.
What it means:
- Well, it’s hard to say, especially since this analysis is interesting on its own, but Samsung usually downscales their devices and bundles more with them, adding a trade-in deal, etc.
- There have been some decent deals on the S21 range already, including the S21 Plus. And Black Friday is not far away, where Samsung is usually aggressive.
- However, at face value, this means more wiggle room for Samsung on the hardware, although it’s difficult to get exact details about where the money is going as the marketing, research, and soft cost are not known.
- And there are other confusing details too: Apple makes its own processors but pays TSMC to make its processors, while Samsung makes more of its own materials, including its displays and NAND RAM.
- Apple has also used Samsung Display on its flagship smartphones in the past.
- All in all, Samsung clearly has scope for more attractive prices for its S22 series.
