Auto shows are back! Germany is host to fun new ideas at the IAA Mobility Event 2021 in Munich. It officially starts tomorrow, but just like tech conferences, many of the good things are announced in pre-event launches.

And right at the top of the list these days are details and concepts for electric vehicles and autonomous driving, with Mercedes-Benz, VW, BMW, various startups, etc. producing new concepts:

🧱 Pixel 3 smartphones are crumbling left and right, there is no clear answer as to why and the mode the phones are failing in means there is little that can be done at the moment (Android authority).

🔧 Telephone manufacturers could be forced to provide updates in Germany for seven years, two years longer than the EU proposal (Android authority).

📳 Data leak of the Vivo X70 series: three chips from three chip manufacturers (Android authority).

🍎 Mark Gurman suggested that Apple could announce its next big event as early as this week, suggesting that the upcoming Apple Watch Series 7 will be in short supply, adding weight to previous rumors (Blümberg).

🍏 Apple tacitly postponed its CSAM scanning initiative to vacation on Friday evening and said: “… (Android authority). Over 100 policy and rights groups, including the EFF and the American Civil Liberties Union, asked Apple to recalibrate. 🛫 NASA begins flight tests with Joby’s electric air taxi or electric VTOL aircraft (Engage).

🎮 Sony offers a free upgrade of Horizon Forbidden West from PS4 to PS5 after criticism (The edge).

🔴 The Perseverance rover on Mars confirms that it has collected and stored its first rock sample after initial problems (CNET).

🚁 NASA’s helicopter on Mars, Ingenuity, has completed 12 flights and is doing so well that its mission has been extended indefinitely, although the upcoming Martian winter will be challenging (ScienceAlert).
