Could debut on smartphones next year

Huawei HarmonyOS 2

Huawei announced its Harmony OS platform at its developer conference last year and now Harmony OS 2.0.

The Chinese brand has confirmed that a beta version of the Harmony OS 2.0 SDK will be available for smartwatches, televisions and head units from September 10, 2020. The company added that a beta version of the developer tools for smartphones will be available in December 2020.

“Maybe we will see smartphones with Harmony OS from next year”, Richard Yu, CEO of the Huawei Consumer Business Group, was quoted at the Huawei Developer Conference (HDC).

OpenHarmony roadmap

The company also revealed a roadmap for its OpenHarmony project (see above), which is an open source version of Harmony OS that is similar to the AOSP. The company says the open source project will support devices with 128 KB to 128 MB of RAM starting today, while targeting devices with more RAM through April 2021 and October 2021.
