Cooling is a hot topic for the Galaxy S22 series
Eric Zeman / Android Authority
Cooling is one of the most underrated aspects of high-end smartphones, as you only notice really bad cooling solutions if you constantly push the phone to its limits. This can happen if you are filming 8K or 4K / 60fps videos for a long period of time or playing technically demanding games for a while.
A rumor surfaced last week that Samsung’s Galaxy S22 series may not have vapor chamber cooling for cost reasons. Instead, the company tends to use graphite thermal pads, as we saw with the S21 series. But what do the readers prefer? We asked that last week, and here are the results.
Is the S22 series cooling technology important to you?
Results
The poll was published on August 24th and so far it has received over 1,300 votes. And it turns out that “I agree with both” is the single most popular choice among respondents (~ 41%). This suggests that as long as temperatures are kept in check, many people don’t care about the exact cooling solution.
The second most popular choice was steam chamber cooling (~ 37%). Graphite pad cooling only made up ~ 5% of the vote, suggesting that people interested in certain Galaxy S22 series cooling technologies have an overwhelmingly preferred solution.
Finally, ~ 16% of respondents said they don’t care about the Galaxy S22 family cooling solution. This is an understandable position as cooling is generally not one of the most important functions of a smartphone. Other functions such as screen quality, cameras, charging speeds, battery capacity and more are receiving more attention from consumers and manufacturers.
It’s also interesting to note that just over 57% of respondents said that either a cooling solution is enough or that they don’t care about cooling technology at all. 42% have a specific solution in mind. Viewed differently, around 83% of the readers surveyed would like a certain solution or are satisfied with both.
Comments
- Patrick Mac: I don’t care what they do with the phone, but I don’t want it to overheat like the current S21 Ultra Exynos variant. I’ve always asked what’s the use of 4K and 8K recording if I can’t record a video for more than 5 minutes without the phone overheating.
- Farhan Ahmad Tajuddin: If the upcoming Exynos / Snapdragon chipset is more heat efficient than the current chipset, that should be fine with me.
