Comcast announced on Friday that free access to its 1.5 million public Xfinity WiFi hotspots will be expanded for the rest of the year to everyone, including non-customer customers. This follows an update on Thursday in which the company announced this Extension of the free Internet Essentials offer, which will provide 60 days of low-income internet service with students for the rest of 2020.
The move comes as that The USA want to open again in the middle of Covid-19 pandemic.
“We have seen a huge increase in usage after opening our public hotspots, and we look forward to keeping them open until the end of the year as the nation takes steps to reopen,” said Dana Strong, president of Xfinity Consumer Services . said in a statement.
In March, Comcast and more than 700 other mobile and broadband providers signed the promise of Keep Americans Connected to the Federal Communications Commission. As part of the promise, companies promised not to charge late fees or interrupt service to customers who cannot pay their bills. In April, the companies extended their promise until June 30th.
