- The Clubhouse chat room app has finally released a beta version for Android.
- The app still requires you to join a waiting list or receive an invitation from a friend.
- Availability is currently limited to the United States.
The audio-only chat room app Clubhouse was the talking point of tech town earlier this year, but the big downside was that it was limited to iOS only. We say “was” because the company finally released a beta version for Android.
“Today we are happy to announce that Clubhouse for Android is now available in beta,” the team stated in a blog post. Unfortunately, the beta rollout is currently only available in the US.
“We will gradually start with the US, followed by other English-speaking countries and the rest of the world,” explained the clubhouse team. The company suggests gathering feedback, making corrections, and working on some new features “in the next few weeks” before a fuller version is released. That should give you a rough idea of when to expect clubhouse in more countries.
It’s not entirely free in the US as you still need to sign up on a waiting list or receive an invitation from a friend to use the service. Regardless of whether you are in the US or download the app through APKMirror, you can register and reserve your username for the time being. And the Android app actually works outside of the US when you get an invite from an iOS friend.
However, the Clubhouse developers report that the Android version is missing some features. These missing features include topic tracking, Instagram / Twitter account linking, club creating / managing, updating name / username in the app and a lot more.
News of Android’s availability also comes as a lot of key services adopt or plan to implement similar audio-only services like Twitter, Telegram, and Facebook. Do you think Clubhouse was late on Android? You can vote in our poll near the top of the page or check the Play Store list below.
