  • Citizen has introduced its first Wear OS smartwatch, the CZ Smart.
  • It has a sporty design and modern features, but uses the older Snapdragon Wear 3100 chip.
  • It is available to order now for $ 395.

Add another name to the list of established watch brands that make Google-powered wristband clothing. Citizen has introduced the CZ Smart, their first Wear OS watch and their first smartwatch with a fully digital display.

With its large 46 mm steel case, the knurled aluminum ring, the conventional-looking pushers and the digital dials, which are reminiscent of both analogue and LED-based watches, the smartwatch is intended to be reminiscent of the “legendary” sports watches from Citizen. It has 3 ATM water resistance (to a depth of 98 feet) and options for silicone straps and an ion-plated metal bracelet.

Citizen appropriately charges the CZ Smart with features you have come to expect from many newer Wear OS devices. The watch includes a heart rate monitor for fitness, a combination of loudspeaker and microphone for answering calls, and NFC for tap-to-pay purchases. Under the 1.28-inch AMOLED display you will also find GPS, a barometer and a compass.

However, this hardware is behind the times in some ways. The first Citizen smartwatch still uses a Snapdragon Wear 3100 chip with 8 GB of storage space, while the more powerful Snapdragon Wear 4100 is already finding its way into some watches. This isn’t exactly a deal breaker, but it’s a factor to mention if you’re determined to have the latest technology at your fingertips.

Citizen is now taking pre-orders for the CZ Smart priced at $ 395. That’s significantly more expensive than competitors like Fossils Gen 5. However, this is one of the better-looking Wear OS smartwatches outside of the luxury market – it might be worth it if you like the Citizen badge or just want a smartwatch that looks good, doesn’t matter what you wear
