The Chromecast with Google TV is now receiving a major update with several major improvements and new features.
The April update with firmware version QTS1.210311.005 was discovered by a Reddit user. It weighs 166MB, so it’s not that big, but the changelog reveals some interesting new features.
In the “Display & Sound” section you will now find a new setting for advanced video control. You can control the HDR formats, resolution, refresh rate and color formats in detail.
HDMI-CEC can now be configured to turn your TV on and off. HDMI hotplug enhancements can also help your Chromecast with Google TV determine the best display settings for your TV.
Many users don’t use an Ethernet adapter for Chromecast with Google TV. For them, Google made Wi-Fi improvements to 5 GHz and mesh networks. Bluetooth audio stuttering was also fixed in the latest update.
Finally, the new firmware for Chromecast with Google TV updates the security patch level to April 2021. The last security update the streaming device received was in December. So this is a welcome jump.
The remote control of the device is also updated to version 24.7. You can go to the remote control settings to find the new software.
