Chris Hemsworth says he’s thrilled with the response to his recently released Netflix thriller. extractionand he would be excited to re-register for a second film. “There has been a lot of talk and questioning about sequels and prequels and all sorts of things,” said Hemsworth in a thank you video posted on Instagram. “And all I can say is – who knows? But with that amount of support I’m going to be pretty excited to jump back in.”
Warning: possible extraction spoilers ahead.
Hemsworth plays mercenary Tyler Rake, who risks his life to save young Ovi (Rudhraksh Jaiswal), the kidnapped son of a detained Indian criminal. Rake’s fate remains unclear at the end of the film – probably why he discussed both “prequels” and “sequels” as a second film option – although it is likely that he survived.
A second extraction film seems to make sense on many levels. Hemsworth is thrilled, as are the spectators. And it’s a bit of an MCU reunion. Hemsworth naturally plays Thor in many Marvel films, and Extraction was written by Joe Russo, a veteran of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who also produced with his brother Anthony.
Hemsworth called Extraction “the currently leading film on the planet” and added, “It looks like it will be Netflix’s greatest feature film ever, which is absolutely stunning.”
While a spokesman for Netflix was unable to confirm the exact number of viewers, the company tweeted about the success of Extraction.
“Tyler Rake kicks your ass,” says a tweet from the official NetflixFilm Twitter account. “The extraction is well on its way to becoming the greatest movie premiere ever on Netflix. It is expected to have 90 million households active in the first four weeks.”
The critical response was mixed, sometimes in the same rating. Forbes employee Scott Mendelson called the plot of the film a “white savior tale”, but also praised the feature as a “polished, visually appealing and exquisitely choreographed action adventure film”.
