TL; DR

  • Infinix has announced a concept phone with color changing and 160W charging speed.
  • The Infinix Concept Phone 2021 can be fully charged in 10 minutes.

Infinix isn’t exactly the best-known name in the smartphone space, but the Transsion-owned brand is enjoying success in the continent of Africa, the Middle East and parts of Asia. The company is widely known for offering mid-range and entry-level smartphones, but it is aiming pretty high with the newly announced Infinix Concept Phone 2021.

The concept phone has some standout features, but the most noticeable element is the color-changing back. According to Infinix, the phone combines electrochromic film and electroluminescent film to provide the industry’s first “two-tone back cover”. So what does this make possible?

“When a call comes in, the back of the smartphone changes between silver gray and light blue. When charging, it changes color and flashes in the middle of the device, ”said Infinix in a press release Android authority.

Ultra-fast charging is getting faster

The most impressive tech feature has to be the extra 160W wired charge (referred to as Ultra Flash Charge), with Infinix claiming it can charge the phone’s 4,000mAh battery in 10 minutes. That surpasses the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra from last year, which charged its 4,500 mAh battery in 21 minutes with a 120 W charge. The company says the included charger also supports multiple protocols, so you can charge your laptop and phone with the same building block.

Infinix says it is implementing over 60 protections to ensure safe charging and charging temperatures that stay below 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). It also advertises a charge conversion efficiency of 98.6%. Otherwise, the Infinix Concept Phone 2021 also offers 50W wireless charging. There is no information on how long it takes to charge the battery from zero to 100% wirelessly.

However, we have some reservations about battery health when charging at 160 W. Oppo and Xiaomi have previously claimed that their batteries degrade to ~ 80% after 800 charge cycles at 125 W and 200 W respectively, although it is unclear whether these cycles are at maximum Loading speeds occur.

Nevertheless, a battery that degrades to 80% is not so great if Samsung previously advertised 95% capacity after two years of charging. We asked Infinix about the battery drain and will update the article if we get a response.

Don’t expect any flagship performance here, as the Infinix Concept Phone 2021 is equipped with a Helio G95 4G SoC, which is largely the same as the Snapdragon 720G. This isn’t really surprising as the company has never released a phone with a flagship SoC before. Other core specifications are 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of RAM.

Otherwise, the Infinix Concept Phone 2021 is also equipped with a triple rear-view camera setup (64MP main, 8MP 5X periscope camera, 8MP 120 degrees ultra-wide angle), a 32MP selfie camera in a punch-hole, a fingerprint sensor in the display, a 6 , 67-inch OLED curved screen with 88-degree waterfall edges and Android 11. The company’s XOS Android skin has had a reputation for being awful for the past several years, but hopefully the company has done things for the past few years Years.

This wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen a phone with color-changing capabilities as OnePlus unveiled the Concept One phone at CES 2020. We still haven’t seen a OnePlus phone with electrochromic glass and / or color-changing features, though. Still, Infinix states that it will continue to evolve the technology of its concept phone so it can be carried over to future devices.
