WHERE’S THE CAT IN THIS PICTURE?

Cats are cunning little creatures, and they can squeeze into the smallest of spaces. A photo of a sly cat winning a hide-and-seek game went viral on Twitter this week. On Sunday, Kate Hinds, editor of the newsroom at WNYC Public Radio, shared a photo of her impressive bookshelf in her Manhattan house entitled “Today in find the cat”. Go ahead, find it. All right, wait. (Cat-finding spoilers are introduced later in this article.)

“My cat’s name is Norah, although no one in my family agrees whether there should be an ‘h’ in the end,” Hinds told me in an email. “We adopted her from a local rescue group a little over ten years ago.”

Hinds said her family knows most of the places the kitten is hiding, and the place she looked for in the photo is one of Norah’s favorite summer hiding places.

Some Twitter users were at a loss.

“I can’t find the cat, but I love your bookshelf,” wrote one.

Some couldn’t believe that there was really a cat somewhere in the picture. “Is there a real cat in this picture? Or a figure or something?” wrote a Twitter user.

Give up? Hinds published a close-up of the picture showing Norah’s paw sticking out from under the television.

“For some reason, she goes behind the TV in the summer,” said Hinds. “She prefers to go to bed with winter hats / scarves in the colder months.”

The hunt for the cat may have provided a nice, necessary change for some who could use it.

“I need everyone to check their camera roles and a thread called” Where’s the cat? “Compiled,” wrote a Twitter user. “I haven’t been so calm from a tweet in a long time.”

Another wrote: “I would play it every day. It’s brilliant.”

Hinds even has a few more options for finding the cat, for those who need distraction.

By Tuesday evening, the picture had been retweeted more than 42,900 times and liked more than 219,300 times. Real fur.
