Blu G91 Pro announced: Two steps forward, two steps back?
- The US brand Blu has launched the G91 Pro smartphone.
- The phone offers much faster wired charging and more RAM than its predecessor.
- However, we are seeing some cuts on paper.
The US smartphone brand Blu launched the G90 Pro last year, which is marketed as a budget-oriented gaming smartphone. Sure, it didn’t have a high refresh rate screen or flagship silicon, but it still delivered a respectable amount of power and a huge battery.
Now, Blu has come back to the drawing board for the Blu G91 Pro, and it looks like we’ve got a couple of upgrades as well as a couple of downgrades. For starters, the new phone offers the Helio G90 4G SoC, which is actually a very easy downgrade compared to the Helio G90T processor in the G90 Pro.
Blu’s latest phone also sees a downgraded rearview camera system on paper, swapping out the G90 Pro’s 48MP Sony IMX582 main camera for the budget-conscious Samsung Isocell GM1 48MP sensor. The G91 Pro also swaps the 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera from the previous phone for a 5-megapixel wide-angle camera. Otherwise, you still have a pair of 2MP sensors for depth effects and macro shots. Of course, the camera hardware is not the be-all and end-all of image quality, so we’ll have to wait for judgment on this.
We’re seeing a couple of big upgrades, however, starting with the loading speeds. The phone now has a wired charge of 30W versus 18W on the previous device. This should lead to noticeably faster charging times, as we have an impressive 5,000 mAh battery on board. Otherwise, 10W wireless charging is still available if you’d rather use charging pads.
Another notable upgrade is that the new phone now has 6GB of RAM versus the old phone’s 4GB. This should make multitasking a more enjoyable endeavor.
The Blu G91 Pro is also equipped with a 6.7-inch FHD + LCD panel (still 60 Hz), 128 GB of expandable memory, a 16 MP camera in a cut-out in the center, a fingerprint scanner on the back and Android 11 .
Blu says the G91 Pro has a suggested price of $ 249.99 on Amazon, but as part of an introductory promotion, that price is being cut by $ 100. The company is also giving away real wireless earbuds to the “first few hundred” who buy the phone. The device will go on sale on August 25th and will be available in Moonstone and Graphite color options.
