Long before the appearance of the coronavirus outbreak, the British anthology series Black mirror took realistic events and characters and turned them into a recognizable but disturbing world. With the pandemic, however, show artist Charlie Brooker says that he is not working on new episodes because … well, just look around.

“At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories of falling societies, so I’m not working on one of them.” Brooker told Radio Times this week. “I’m very interested in rethinking my comic skills, so I’ve written scripts to make me laugh.”

In an episode of season four, Black Mirror showed an over-invested fan of a Star Trek-like show.

Black Mirror, which airs on Netflix in the U.S., has produced five seasons so far, as has the one interactive film Bandersnatch. The Twilight Zone-like episodes often start out realistically and include some technological innovations that turn the character’s worlds into a disaster. Brookers quarantine comedy special with the working title Antiviral wipe, will air in the UK on May 14th.
