Bigger display, Snapdragon 675, and more

Motorola Moto G Stylus in hand

  • New details of an upcoming Motorola Moto G Stylus have appeared.
  • According to reports, there will be a bigger display, a misplaced fingerprint scanner and a new Snapdragon chipset.
  • However, the phone is said to be started without NFC and with Android 10.

The Moto G Stylus was one of the few options for those looking for a cheap smartphone with a stylus. Motorola now seems to be preparing the next issue. According to leaker Evan Blass, a list of alleged specifications has appeared that includes the phone’s key figures. And if you were to hope for profound changes, you would be deeply disappointed.

For starters, there are some notable improvements. According to reports, a 6.81-inch display measuring 2,400 x 1,080 will make its debut. This is a significant size improvement over the 6.4-inch 2,300 x 1,080-pixel screen on the 2020 Moto G Stylus. This should give the user a larger writing and drawing surface with this pen, but it should also make the phone less ergonomic. To improve the latter, the back-mounted fingerprint scanner is moved to the side of the phone depending on the leak.

The other major change will be internal. While Blass says the 2021 Moto G Stylus will debut again with just 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, it will be upgraded from the Snapdragon 665 to the Snapdragon 675 chipset. Sure, it’s by no means the newest silicon, but it should help keep the phone’s list price down.

Beyond those pointers, expect a similar arrangement of the rear camera of a 48-megapixel primary shooter, an 8-megapixel ultrawide, a 2-megapixel macro snapper, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Imaging wasn’t a strength of the original pen, so we don’t expect much thunder or lightning here.

The bad news continues in other respects as well. The 2021 Moto G Stylus will also be launched with Android 10, without NFC and with a 4,000 mAh battery. Granted, battery life on the 2020 iteration was excellent, but the Moto G Power’s 5,000 mAh cell would be a welcome addition.

Motorola has not yet announced the successor to the 2020 Stylus, so it’s unclear when the phone will debut. If the company keeps the price back below $ 300, this could be a viable option for digital jotters, content consumers, and street fighters on a budget.
