Whether you are penned up Local protection or quarantine during the Corona virus or just stay and play for a weekend Board games is a great way to pass the time. The problem is that countless board games have been developed for many other players and larger groups these days, and even if they have options for two players, this is often not the ideal way to play. So which games can you find as two-player experiences – or better still, really shine?
If you want to go beyond the card game or chessboard to collect dust in your closet, here are some of the best board games for 2 players.

Tile placement games are an important pillar for many board game enthusiasts, also because it’s fun to build a unique board every time you play. Many people have played Carcassonne, one of the genre’s most popular entries, but it’s actually not the best example of the game – and certainly not the best for two players. For me, it’s a mix of one of the best board games of all categories, The Castles of Burgundy, and a solid game with the Kingdomino killer two-player tile action. In both games, players take stones from a central area and add them to their personal principality or kingdom board (depending on the game). Both games perfectly match the tile competition with personal satisfaction to build your personal province without direct interference. The two games seem similar, but feel dramatically different. For the shorter, easier game, choose Kingdomino. If you want to play a deeper, more complex game, choose one Burgundy castles. In any case, you will not be sorry.
Lookout games
If you need a simple puzzle game that is easy to learn and relieve your fears, Patchwork is the place for you. In this game you “sew” your own quilt and run with your competitor to collect buttons. The game is fast paced, the racing and patch buying elements satisfy the competitive spirit, and the Tetris-like quilt sewing mechanism is as enjoyable as completing a puzzle.

If you want a little more bite in your competition, try playing 7 Wonders: Duel, a crafty little card game. Both players try to build civilizations in three eras by designing different maps that help players gain military or scientific dominance, expand their resources, and build different miracles. The competitive game is moving fast and the card design mechanism offers surprising ways to block or catch your opponent. In terms of balanced games for many game sessions, this is one of the best games on the market.

Fake games are popular for parties, but difficult to find for small crowds. Fortunately, Mr. Jack is here to save you! In this entertaining game, one player takes on the role of Jack the Ripper, a free-murderer, while the other player takes on the role of the detective who is responsible for investigating his heinous crimes. Eight unique city dwellers from the Sherlock Holmes universe – any of whom could be the murderer – wander the streets. In each round, players move city dwellers to and from street lights and use their special abilities. Both players can control each character on the board, with opposite goals, to win the game: help Jack to leave town or catch the killer before they can escape.

Codenames is a very popular little party game, but there is a two-player version of this great game that is just as fun – if a little less satisfying because you can’t rub your wins in so many faces of the defeated players. The players set up a card grid with one word each. Then one player is instructed to use single word cues to get the other player to guess a number of “correct” cards. It is a game of word association, shared knowledge and trust. It’s fun and good for couples as a bonus because it teaches you to communicate with your partner very efficiently.
Feel free to report on Twitter or in the comments with your own recommendations for fun board games for couples and roommates. I will be looking for new two-player games and cooperative board games to take my time in the coming weeks.
