Bella Bank new challenger bank with a text-based interface – ProWellTech
Bella Bank new challenger bank with a text-based interface
To meet Bella, a new challenger bank starting November 30th. The company tries to differentiate itself through two special features. First, you can interact with the app using keywords and text commands. Second, Bella tries to build a community that will help each other differentiate their product from soulless monolithic banking services.
Let’s start with the basics. When you open a Bella account, you are given a rainbow debit card that works on the Visa network. You are given a checking account as well as the option to create savings accounts. Behind the Sene, Bella works with the bank on the banking infrastructure. Accounts are FDIC insured up to $ 5 million.

However, the app doesn’t look like your average banking app. There is always a text field at the bottom of the screen. Tapping this field and entering a keyword will allow you to have all of the interactions you expect. This feature is called Socratex.
This is not a chatbot, but rather a command line interface. For example, if you type “send”, “send money” is suggested. You can then enter an amount and click Next. After that, you can enter a contact’s name or add a contact and then click Submit.
You don’t have to find the right menu and hit the right button. The app tries to guide you so that you can compose a full sentence describing your intent. Bella used LivePerson for this text-based interface. LivePerson is also Bella’s strategic backer.

And then there is the karma account. Over a hundred years ago people in Naples ordered two espressos and drank only one. The second would be a Caffè Sospeso. A poor person could ask for a Caffè Sospeso and get a free coffee later in the day.
Bella basically does the same thing with her karma account. Users can deposit up to USD 20 into a personal Karma account. Another user could use their Bella Card and receive a notification that their purchase is covered by someone else’s Karma account.
Similarly, Bella is introducing a randomized cashback program. The company will randomly select purchases and send you back 5 to 200% cashback.
When it comes to savings accounts, you can open as many savings accounts as you want and come up with some unconventional rules. For example, you can set a rule that some money is set aside when it’s sunny, when your sports team wins, etc.
As you can see, Bella would like to introduce some random events in order for you to be surprised by your own bank account. The company plans to return $ 1 million in cash back in the first four weeks in the market. Let’s see if this could turn the financial services provider into a viral experience.
When Bella, a new challenger bank starting November 30th, launched their website on October 4th, they promised to “reinvent the way we interact with our money.” Now they are about to deliver.
You are given a checking account as well as the option to create savings accounts up from 0% APY for now (rumor has it Bella is already in talks with multiple microsavings providers to make this higher). Bella will also be offering a mobile payment solution and a credit card (with an app and without, more on that later) sometime in the future.
The first special feature we mentioned earlier is the ability to interact with Bella using keywords and text commands. You don’t need to jump between screens if you want to transfer money from checking to savings account or set up an automatic payment for your rent or subscriptions. Just type what you want in the address bar, send it off, and Bella will take care of everything else. The company calls this “Natural Language Interface” – NLI for short – and it’s only available on PC/Mac for now. Bella says that all of your information is stored locally on your computer, so don’t worry about the bank sharing your data with advertisers.
The second special feature Bella offers is their community platform. Bella calls it “Community”, but you might be more familiar with terms like shared economy or collaborative consumption. The idea is simple: You get connected to other Bella users nearby through the app and can do things together, split costs, etc. Bella emphasizes safety here by only allowing users within 50 miles from each other by default (you can change this if you want), so there should not be any issues while using Community features in public places. Bella also encourages people to only list events they would attend themselves, e.g., a concert instead of promoting an open house. Bella will take a 10% cut from each transaction between community members and donate that money to charity (you can set your preferred cause if you want).
Despite Bella’s low-fee model, there are still fees associated with Community transactions: 5% of the transaction value, capped at $5. Sending money costs 1% + $0.25 regardless of the amount transferred. This is the only fee other than normal bank fees such as overdraft or non-network ATM withdrawals etc., so Bella is trying hard to make sure its users don’t get ripped off by any hidden charges while using their platform. The Company will also offer an API in the future – similar to PayPal – allowing third-party developers to create apps for Bella. Bella emphasizes the need for open banking and an alternative to corporate-owned banks.
A personal favorite feature of Bella is their NFC (Near Field Communication) technology. They say it’s faster than Apple Pay or Google Wallet, though Bella doesn’t mention any numbers here. It looks like DataCash will be powering Bella’s NFC tech, which would mean that Bella has partnered with Visa as well, just like all other tap-to-pay solutions.
Well, that was quite a lot about Bella’s features. But what does this mean for you? For starters, if you don’t already have a bank account because you cannot afford one or do not want your money controlled by other people – Bella might be perfect for you. If you are happy with your current bank and don’t really care about the features Bella offers, you also do not need to switch. Bella will never try to take your business by offering free banking or some other money-consuming service like that (Bella does offer a few things for free though – we’ll get into that in a minute).
So why should you even bother with Bella? Well, if you live close enough to Bella’s physical office in New York City, Bella lets you set up a meeting at their office to talk about investing, borrowing money from Bella, getting a credit card etc. The company wants everyone to have access to banking products without being poor or rich. They believe everyone should be treated equally and have equal opportunities. With these principles in mind, Bella was started in January 2015 and is now open for business starting November 30th.
The bank will operate under the name Bella Bank – a play on their slogan “Bella banking”. Bella’s headquarters are located at 55 Water Street in New York City, just a few blocks away from Wall Street. Bella plans to expand to upstate New York within the next year or so, followed by Los Angeles and then other major cities across the USA. If you’d like to start using Bella right away, don’t hold your breath until November 30th: They have been accepting customers through their website since February this year. All you need is an email address and a government-issued ID to get started! To celebrate Bella’s public launch, the company is offering a 5% interest rate on savings accounts for the first six months to anyone who signs up before December 31st.
After Bella’s public launch, you can also expect the following features: Mobile app with text-based interface Ability to send and receive money from other people Near Field Communication (NFC) technology Debit card with built-in PIN functionality Inbuilt basic budgeting tools Text-to-speech payment notifications The ability to create community groups, as well as communities within those groups Bella promises to keep all these features 100% free of charge! If Bella does manage to do this for an entire year without any changes or interruptions whatsoever, they will get my eternal respect.
My experience with Bella
I remember making Andy’s Frozen Custard a few days before the sale when I discovered I had paid $7.60 for the order. It totaled 103% of my originally purchased amount. Later, a user picked up my complete ticket in a local coffee shop. While it’s easy to get wrapped in the fun of Bella, it’s important to point out that it currently doesn’t have any key functions for a banking account. Some functions may feel sluggish at some points but they will work perfectly fine in others. Although Bella says they have no hidden fees and I haven’t been charged I still have some trouble looking up the actual pricing.
Bella Loves Me (Bella) Review
Instagram has become an surprisingly robust source of innovation in technology apps. Bella Loves Me is a digital financial service that emphasizes randomly occurring acts of generosity among it’s members. Let’s look at some of the basic information of Bella along with my experience so far. What made me interest with Bella’s new idea was its conceptual design which stressed random kindness among people who shared their experience with others. How does that happen? If I use the Instagram application in the next months it’s possible to learn how I am using the app as the best one.
Final thoughts on Bella Loves Me
Bella Loves Me is one of the very best and most attractive digital banking products and services I’ve reviewed. Not alone is it a dazzling and pleasant hook with a unique application design and user-friendly interface. The latter could also need practice and/or getting used to as often this could become quite difficult. Regardless of these small downsides I honestly enjoyed using the service staying updated on facebook and getting notifications about my Karma recipients. I will keep watching this for at least the rest of 2021 and hopefully beyond.
Never going back to my old bank
Bella is a free account and is an automatic deposit. The savings APY though is fairly low, but the checking account is actually paying dividends. The design have become much more user-friendly. I use my Karma account at all times and I receive much more in return each time. I almost don’t want to advertise the service because I think the benefits may go down as the userbase increases but I brag about all the Bella surprises to all my friends and acquaintances. Getting my card was a painless struggle but Customer Service was really helpful I’m grateful I stayed.
I didn’t expect much.
Bella offers surprises Cashback on Aliexpress card from 1 to 17.4%. Bella’s card feels a little flimsy against my more robust cards. I’ll see if I can sign out my sister too. I’m excited to see how the Karma elements work out too:) For this I need to give them this raving review. It won’t always be 174% but gaining additional than the usual 1-1.15% is more than enough for some users to stay using Bella. I want cashback surprises in the future.
My most memorable experience
Bella is banking for the people! Bella is what is expected from banking. That’s my best experience with banks. If you are afraid or unsure due to negative comments you just stop & place the card. Why would anyone else make that big mistake of charging you $30? Bella has created here is what banks are supposed to be. What Bella does is Bank for the people but not for the money.
