Avengers: Infinity War writers reveal deleted shot of Doctor Strange in Iron Man armor
Creating a Marvel Cinematic Universe film is an iterative process, so a lot of material ends up on the floor of the editing room. Avenger: Infinity War was no exception, as screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely illustrated on the CNET sister site ComicBook.comthrough a behind-the-scenes photo of Doctor Strange in Tony Stark’s Iron Man armor – a moment we haven’t seen in the film
The image is from an alternate version of Tony (Robert Downey Jr.) who saved Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) from Ebony Maw (Tom Vaughan-Lawlor) who interrogated the Sorcerer Supreme on behalf of the great evil Thanos.
“So there were other versions of this rescue. Some were just too great (and too long) to keep. But you can still dream …” McFeely said about ComicBook.com, with a shot of Downey and Cumberbatch against a green screen.
It is not the first time that we have heard of this unused scene. Conceptual art seen last year Avengers: Endgame – the art of film showed strange in the armor. The visual development illustrator at Marvel Studios, Phil Saunders, also shared some conceptual drawings of the armor that protects Strange from Maw’s evil needles an Instagram post back in February.
Avengers: Infinity War is currently streamable Netflix in the US, but it will move to the competing streaming service Disney Plus on June 25th. Follow-up film Avengers: Endgame is currently on Disney Plus.

Don’t be surprised if the concept of Strange as Iron Man is revised sometime in the future, perhaps in Marvel’s upcoming What if…? cartoonthat examines alternative MCU timelines.
