Apple Watch Series 7 may lack body temperature, glucose sensors

TL; DR
- The next Apple Watch will include faster hardware, but several new health monitoring features may be missing.
- The wearable, which is labeled Series 7, may not have body temperature or blood glucose sensors.
- However, Apple’s 2022 series might be the one to watch out for.
The next line of Apple Watch, believed to be called the Series 7, will receive several design and performance upgrades. This emerges from a new report from Bloomberg.
According to “People with Expertise”, the Apple Watch Series 7 can use a display with thinner edges, a new layer of laminate and a slightly thicker case. This can give the company more internal space for a larger battery or volume for additional hardware. In this context, it is expected that the Series 7 will also support ultra broadband (UWB). A faster chipset is also expected, but Apple tends to use new silicon in every new series of watches.
This is where the upgrades seem to end, however. While a body temperature sensor was planned for the 7 Series, Apple will reportedly wait until the 2022 Series. Apple still lags behind Fitbit in this regard. Blood sugar sensors are still “a few years” away, but no company has really perfected this technology.
A “robust” Apple Watch in progress
If you think the Apple Watch is too dainty to take off the beaten path, the company may have a product for you in 2022. An alleged Apple Watch targeting athletes is in the works. It should be a more robust device to compete against Garmin and Suunto, and could be provided with an “Explorer” or “Adventure” tag.
While Apple may be a little late in adding new technology to its wearable line, it shouldn’t be a huge problem. According to Counterpoint, the Apple Watch still takes up more than a third of all smartwatch deliveries. Even if Samsung and Google plan a new attack on Wear OS, and smaller companies outperform in implementing new technology, this detail is unlikely to change anytime soon.
Apple traditionally launches its new watch series in September. So until then, expect a lot of details about the Apple Watch Series 7.
