Companies like Zoom and Amazon have enjoyed booming business amid corona virus locks, but they’re not the only ones. Nintendo released Animal Crossing: New Horizons, a flagship title for its Switch console, on March 20. Only billions of people around the world were encouraged to stay at home as much as possible. The result? Lots of bells for Nintendo.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold 13.41 million copies in the last 6 weeks, Nintendo announced Thursday in a quarterly earnings report. New Horizons had sold over 11 million units by the end of March. Switch sales grew 34% sequentially, despite COVID-19 affecting Nintendo’s supply chains.

It may sound presumptuous to attribute New Horizon’s success to global social distancing measures, but Nintendo itself found the game to dramatically exceed previous titles. Both 2005 DS titles Wide world and the 3DS ‘ New page Games sold around 2 million copies in the first 6 weeks.

New Horizons takes you to a deserted island where you work with entrepreneurial raccoon Tom Nook to transform it into paradise. It is a soothing life simulation They fish, catch insects, dig for fossils and sell goods and make the island the way you want it.

New Horizon has not only surpassed these games many times over, its turnover of 13 million is already higher than the lifetime achievement of Wide World and New Leaf. After the 17 million Pokemon Sword and Shield, it’s now the sixth best switch game ever. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe remains king of the hill with over 24 million copies sold.
