Android’s competitor during week of September 18, 2020

On the Apple news this week, all eyes were on the introduction of new Apple hardware and two new Apple services (well, a service and a bundle). Unfortunately, we haven’t seen any new iPhones, but we probably won’t have to wait long for them.

On other Apple news, we saw some new iPhone 12 rumors and a rumor that a second iPhone SE might be out this year. However, the news this week was mostly dominated by the hardware / service launch on Tuesday.

Please see the Apple News summary below for the latest information.

Last week’s top Apple news:

  • New Apple Watches Debut: Apple pulled off two new Apple Watches on Tuesday: the Apple Watch Series 6 and a brand new line of lower-cost watches known as the Apple Watch SE. An SpO2 sensor is the main new feature of the Series 6, while the Watch SE includes most of the design elements of the Series 6, but costs much less.
  • iPads are updated: Apple has also updated two of its iPad product lines. The “classic” iPad received some technical improvements and a lower price, but remained largely the same. The iPad Air, meanwhile, received some tech improvements, a bigger screen, and some new colors.
  • New service called Apple Fitness Plus: For $ 9.99 per month, Apple Fitness Plus gives you access to training that syncs to your Apple Watch. You can see instructors on the screen of your choice and follow the workouts while listening to music from Apple Music.
  • The long-awaited Apple One bundle is here: With all of the various Apple services now expanding with Fitness Plus, it was inevitable that the company would start selling bundles. There are now three levels of Apple One: Individual, Family, and Premier. Each offers a selection of Apple services at a reduced overall price.
  • The latest operating systems end up in their stable form: On September 16, Apple released the stable versions of iOS 14, iPad OS 14, Watch OS 7, and more. If you have a suitable device that supports these new versions, you should already have them or see them soon.
  • It looks like 120 Hz displays are a no-go for the iPhone 12: According to the reliable leaker Ming-Chi Kuo, a refresh rate of 120 Hz is not expected for any of the iPhone 12 models. Lots of leaks have gotten into it so far, but Kuo, who shoots the rumor, makes us pretty confident it won’t happen. Maybe next year Apple fans!
  • Best Buy lists suspicious screen protectors: A Redditor spotted an odd screen protector that is on sale at Best Buy that supposedly goes with something called the iPhone SE Plus. It supposedly also fits the iPhone 6/7/8 Plus models. Could a bigger iPhone SE be on the way? The Best Buy list is still active, although the heading has since been changed.
  • For example, suppose AirPods Studio leaked: It’s inevitable that Apple will introduce AirPods branded OverPhr headphones at some point. There’s a picture posted on Twitter this week showing what AirPods studio headphones could be. See for yourself Here. We are skeptical.
  • Online Apple Store finally lands in India: Buyers in India can finally visit the online Apple Store and purchase Apple products. The store opens on September 23 and offers the usual tariff: iPhones, iPads, Macs, etc. There are also iPhone trade-in offers.
