TL; DR
- If you own an Nvidia Shield TV, you should see the new Discover page on Android TV soon.
- The Discover page essentially replicates the core aspects of the Google TV experience, but without a complete overhaul of Google TV.
- Shield TVs in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany and Australia will see the update. A UI update appears on devices in Italy and Spain, but not the new Discover page.
When Google launched the Chromecast with Google TV, there was a lot of speculation that the company wasn’t doing anything for Android TV. However, it eventually turned out that Google TV is a specialized interface that exists in addition to Android TV so that both can exist at the same time.
Google also said it would broadcast Google TV to current Android TV boxes and televisions. While this hasn’t happened on a large scale yet, the company has made tweaks to the Android TV’s user interface that replicates at least part of the Google TV experience. Now it looks like the popular Nvidia Shield TVs are next on the list to receive this update.

Nvidia announces that the new Discover page in Android TV is now rolling out to devices in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany and Australia. The Discover page summarizes content from all streaming apps and offers you a single point of contact for content suggestions. It is not all the same as what Google TV does so well, but close enough.
Along with the new Discover page, Android TV will also see some UI tweaks. For example, the “All Apps” view is now only “Apps” and appears directly on the start screen.
Interestingly, Italy and Spain will see these UI changes but not the new Discover page.
Nvidia says the update is now rolling out on Shield TVs and hopes to complete the rollout by June 24th. In other words, it could take a week before you see the changes in your system.
