Android loyalty survey says most passing on iPhone 13

TL; DR
- An Android loyalty survey shows that only 18.3% of Android users in the US are interested in the next iPhone.
- This number is down a whopping 14.8% compared to the previous year.
- The main reason given for the gloomy interest is the lack of features that are important to Android users.
The next line of iPhones – tentatively known as the iPhone 13 series – is coming fast and is likely to hit the market in September. Like every year, some people wonder: how many Android users are planning the plunge?
There aren’t that many, according to a new survey from SellCell. The used technology service asked over 5,000 US-based Android users if they were interested in the iPhone 13. A whopping 81.7% said “No”.

That leaves only 18.3% who are even considering ending their Android loyalty streak. Interestingly, SellCell conducted a similar survey last year which found that nearly 33% of Android users are considering an iPhone. That’s a drop of almost 15% in just one year.
Android loyalty appears to be strong this year
What happened? Why are so few Android users in the US considering switching? According to the survey, most users are not interested in losing their fingerprint sensor as it is widely expected that iPhone 13 phones will continue to rely solely on Face ID. This makes sense considering that we are still in the midst of a global pandemic. While Face ID could work just fine while the user is wearing a mask, a fingerprint sensor is obviously superior.
The second most common reason is the lack of customizability within iOS. And third is the iCloud photo scanning controversy, where Apple scans user photos to track down child abuse and exploitation.
You can see the full breakdown of the reasoning in the table above.
The real question, of course, is whether or not the problems Android users are having will spread to iPhone users this year. Will there be a surge in people switching to Android? We have to wait and see.
