Android gets Heads Up feature to prevent distractions

With everything smartphones bring to the world, they can also be incredibly distracting. It looks like Google is rolling out a new digital wellbeing feature that will be helpful in this regard.

The edge reports that the beta version of the Digital Wellbeing app now has a so-called heads-up function. As the name suggests, the feature detects when you use your phone while walking and reminds you to be careful with your surroundings.

“Whenever you go for a walk with your phone, remember to focus on your surroundings,” reads a screenshot from a Twitter users. The screenshot also shows that Heads Up “does not replace paying attention”.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of heads up features XDA developer Evidence of this function in the past year. Even so, it’s still a handy feature. Hopefully, Google will implement this feature while driving too, as distracted driving is another serious problem.
