TL; DR

  • A screenshot posted on Twitter shows the location of the fingerprint sensor under the Pixel 6’s display.
  • The image was posted by the head of Google’s Android department and was quickly removed.
  • You may also see the phone’s highest screen resolution.

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are on the go. Google has already announced that it will launch a major overhaul of its flagship Pixel smartphones later this year.

We know that the Pixel 6 series will have a fingerprint sensor under the display and use a new in-house tensor processor. Now it looks like our first look at the Pixel 6 series fingerprint sensor under the display was shown on Twitter.

Hiroshi Lockheimer, head of Google’s Android division, posted a seemingly innocent picture on his Twitter account. His cheeky caption mentioned that he was trying new wallpaper combinations using Android 12’s Material You theme engine. As you can see in the screenshot, the fingerprint sensor icon is located under the device’s display, just below the clock widget, and gives us a first taste of what the sensor will look like on the Pixel 6.

Shortly after the post was posted on Twitter, Hiroshi deleted the tweet.

As we all know, almost nothing is disappearing entirely from the internet. Mishaal Rahman, editor-in-chief of XDA developerShe reposted a copy of Lockheimer’s deleted Twitter post on your own account.

The screenshot itself had a resolution of 1,440 x 3,200, though a later tweet clarified that the screen resolution of the Pixel 6 should be 1,140 x 3,120. Aside from the screen resolutions, the picture also showed that Verizon’s 5G network was connected to the phone.

If that’s the case, it makes sense why Lockheimer deleted his Twitter post. Finally, why would you want to delete a picture taken from an already available phone? In any case, we should get more official information from Google about the new Pixel 6 phones sometime this fall.

Are you looking forward to the Pixel 6 range?
