  • Android 11 will not be rolled out on Pixel phones in India.
  • No compatible models can receive wireless updates or factory images.
  • There is no clear reason for the delay, but transportation companies may be involved.

The Android 11 update is available right now, but you wouldn’t know if you are a Pixel phone owner in India. Android Central has determined that Google is not currently making the Android 11 version available to Pixel devices in India, whether through a wireless update or a factory image download.

This applies to all phones eligible for the Android 11 update including the Pixel 2, Pixel 3, Pixel 3a, Pixel 4, and Pixel 4a. Android 11 beta users can install the new version in the country, but their number is relatively small compared to those being updated by public versions of Android 10.

The Pixel 4a is also not updated in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and Singapore. However, it won’t officially ship to India until October, and only that country has been denied Android 11 updates for all Pixel devices.

There’s no explanation why Indian users have to wait for Android 11 to roll out. We asked Google for a comment. There are no carrier offerings for Pixel in India like the US and Canada do, but networks like Airtel and Jio have features like Wi-Fi calling enabled that can delay updates when providers test compatibility.

It’s not surprising if the delay is short. At the same time, if you are an Android enthusiast in the country, this is probably not what you wanted to hear. People are exactly buying the Pixel phone to get updates asap – waiting for Android 11 to be released in India is sure to be a pain, even if the wait is limited to a few days or weeks.
