AMC Theatres plans to open 450 cinemas in July, but face masks aren’t mandatory
AMC Theaters, the largest cinema chain in the world, plans to reopen 450 cinemas by July 15 and be fully operational in time for the release of the blockbuster titles Mulan and Tenet, which are slated for release on July 24 and 31. respectively.
In an interview with Variety, AMC CEO and President Adam Aron said there are restrictions that include seating restrictions. Initially, theaters will run at most 30% of the audience and hope to be back to normal by Thanksgiving. In the interview, Aron said AMC could have reopened earlier in some states, but decided to wait. Other cinema companies such as Regal and Cinemark have recently announced plans to reopen. Both aim for July 10th.
Aron also said AMC would not implement mandatory face mask rules in its cinemas.
“We didn’t want to get into political controversy,” Aron told Variety. “We thought it could be counterproductive if we forced masks to be worn by people who firmly believe that it is not necessary. We believe that the vast majority of AMC guests will wear masks. If I are one AMC feature, I’ll definitely do it. ” wear a mask and lead by example. “
However, AMC plans to sell masks for one dollar in theaters.
