Amazon removes another major phone accessory maker from its store

Robert Triggs / Android Authority

TL; DR

  • Amazon pulled all of RavPower’s products from its store.
  • It comes days after a report that RavPower is offering gift cards in exchange for reviews.
  • Aukey and Mpow faced a similar fate in May.

Add another name to the list of top phone accessory manufacturers taken from the Amazon web store due to allegations of shady reviews. The edge reported that Amazon away all RavPower products from his shop days after Wall Street Journal found that the battery and charger company offered incentives for ratings.

The WSJNicole Nguyen ordered a RavPower charger only to discover an offer for a $ 35 gift card when she left a review. While RavPower parent company Sunvalley insisted that the company didn’t insist on a five-star rating, it didn’t matter – the offer violated a 2016 Amazon policy that excludes monetary rewards for reviews. It’s not clear if the article was the sole or primary reason for RavPower’s removal.

We asked Amazon if they could leave a comment.

Aukey and Mpow faced a crackdown in May, despite charges of paying for fake reviews rather than incentives. Amazon’s response to RavPower has also been more thorough. While you can still find some Aukey product lists, it seems that RavPower has completely disappeared.

Amazon’s decision won’t be as heavy a blow for RavPower as it would for other brands, as the equipment maker has its own fairly popular webshop. Still, it’s clear that Amazon wants to set an example for companies like this one. It doesn’t want the slightest hint that sellers are paying for reviews, even if it means some more well-known products are being pulled. This is good for the integrity of the store, although it will cause significant problems the next time you buy a charger or power adapter.
