Amazon said it has removed its online grocery delivery and pickup waiting list in most cities, a change that allows more customers to buy groceries during the day Corona virus Crisis.
The e-commerce heavyweight said a month ago new customers of Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods would have to sign up for an invitation to use these online services and would be notified when they can shop. The change was necessary in order to respond to “unprecedented” demand and to limited capacities due to social distancing measures. The company had announced that it would work every week to increase its capacity and invite new customers.
“We’ve removed the invitation list in most cities, and more than 80% of eligible Prime members can shop without requesting an invitation,” an Amazon spokeswoman said in a statement late Tuesday. “We continue to invite new customers every week.”
Amazon confirmed this on Tuesday Accelerate delivery timesafter long delays and was able to manage more goods that came to his warehouse. All of these changes indicate that Amazon is now slowly returning to more normal operations after struggling to respond to an increase in customer orders and considering 150 new security protocols for its employees during the pandemic.
Better online food availability should be a welcome addition to Prime customers, especially the elderly who are particularly vulnerable to the virus. In the early months of the pandemic The demand for online food has increasedafter such services have been largely ignored by most US customers for years. Now these services are seen as a valuable lifeline to receive weekly grocery orders and help people avoid having to go to supermarkets. This makes it increasingly difficult for customers to find a coveted timeframe for grocery delivery from FreshDirect, Amazon Fresh, and other services.
Adobe announced Tuesday’s online grocery sales in the U.S. increased 110% in April compared to March. Online purchases of wine, beer and spirits also increased by 74%. Adobe said.
The most recent operational changes at Amazon were made after the company severely restricted its logistics network in March when it tried to cope with the sudden surge in orders. It prevented new supplies of non-essential items – such as musical instruments and toys – from entering its warehouse, and did so significantly slowed delivery times for such products in some cases up to a month.
Amazon’s chief financial officer, Brian Olsavsky, said late last month The demand remained high and he warned that he still didn’t know when more one-day shipping services would be available again. The company’s hiring of 175,000 new employees now appears to have had a positive impact on Amazon’s ability to re-establish itself during the pandemic.
