Amazfit GTR 2 and GTS 2 offer a ton of new features for under $200

Update: October 27, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. ET: Huami announced that Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 are coming to the US and UK very soon.
Both watches will retail for $ 179 or £ 159, and will be available through the Amazfit and Amazon online stores. The GTR 2 will roll out in the US and UK on October 30, while the GTS 2 will roll out in the US on November 1 and the UK on November 15.
There’s one big difference between the watches in the US and the UK and the models launched in China last month: Amazon Alexa support. The US / UK variants are equipped with an integrated Alexa, with which you can control your smart home, request weather information and much more.

The Amazfit GTS 2 and Amazfit GTR 2 were officially launched in China today. The Amazfit GTR 2 has a circular display while the GTS 2 gets a square screen and looks like a certain very popular smartwatch. The two wearables are definitely smarter than before, but it depends on what is inside. Here is a breakdown of the new Amazfit watches.
Amazfit GTR 2 specifications and functions
The Amazfit GTR 2 is less full this time. It has a 1.39-inch AMOLED display with a maximum brightness of 450 nits. The classic variant is equipped with a stainless steel case and a leather strap, while the sports model is equipped with an aluminum alloy case and a silicone strap.
In terms of tracking, the GTR 2 currently supports 12 professional sport modes and will support 90 in the future. He receives Huami’s proprietary BioTracker PPG heart rate sensor, which enables 24-hour heart rate monitoring. The watch also features Amazfit’s PAI heart rate analysis software, which generates a health score based on a person’s activity and heart rate during the day.

A significant innovation of the Amazfit GTR 2 (and also of the GTS 2) is the monitoring of blood oxygen. According to Huami, the new watches introduce OxygenBeats, a blood oxygen machine, and SomnusCare, a sleep machine. Together, the two motors help measure blood oxygen data to assess breathing quality during sleep. Amazfit claims that the new blood oxygen sensor has an accuracy of 96%.
In addition, the Amazfit GTR 2 is equipped with an integrated GPS + GLONASS positioning system, NFC, a battery life of 38 days, an offline voice assistant, water resistance of 5 ATM and 3 GB of storage for up to 600 music tracks. Finally, this time the GTR 2 can take calls. This function was missing on the predecessor and was previously only available on the Amazfit Nexo. The Amazfit GTS 2 is the cheaper of the two smartwatches. Its predecessor was also a pretty decent fitness tracker, but it had some obvious flaws that made it difficult to recommend. We hope that Amazfit has worked on these topics.
In terms of design, the Amazfit GTS 2 is lighter and thinner than the previous model. It has a 1.65-inch AMOLED screen with a maximum brightness of 450 nits. The display also has a scratch-resistant coating for extra durability.

Like the GTR 2, the Amazfit GTS 2 currently has 12 professional sport modes and will reach up to 90 in the future. Most of the features of the GTR 2 remain unchanged, including 5ATM water resistance, blood oxygen monitoring, 24-hour heart rate monitoring, support for receiving calls, 3 GB of storage space for storing music and built-in GPS. The only difference seems to be in the design and the battery life. The Amazfit GTS 2 promises a battery life of seven days, which can be extended by up to 20 hours with basic use.
The Amazfit GTR 2 Sport version costs 999 yuan (~ $ 147), while the Amazfit GTR 2 Classic version with leather strap costs 1,099 yuan (~ $ 161). The Amazfit GTS 2 costs 999 yuan (~ $ 147).
