Almost the most popular iPhone ever, and more

Credit where it’s due: Apple’s sales of the iPhone 12 series topped the 100 million mark in just seven months, beating the iPhone 11 series by two full months to 100 million.

This means that around 476,190 of the devices were sold per day. So much for the lack of chips, right?

The detail:

  • According to Counterpoint Research, “global cumulative sales of the iPhone 12 series exceeded 100 million in April 2021”.
  • From that percentage, Apple somehow convinced more people than ever to opt for the top-of-the-range device at $ 1,099 (excluding the 256/512 GB variants).
  • Sales of the iPhone 12 Pro Max accounted for 29% of total serial sales. That’s four percentage points more than the iPhone 11 Pro Max last year, and for the same price.
  • Even if the iPhone 12 Mini is a “failure”. For any other company, having a top 10 devices sold in any given month would be a tremendous achievement. For Apple, that means stopping production(MacRumors).
  • Overall, it’s the fastest-selling iPhone since the iPhone 6, which was a monster.

Hotmail was launched this week in 1996, a July 4th publication by two coworkers who met while working at Apple, Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith.

The idea was to move from ISP-blocked emails to an inbox that was available everywhere, hence the start of Independence Day.

There is an write-up about Wired from 1998, following the acquisition of Microsoft, which at the time was a $ 400 million sale – Microsoft’s S-3 filing revealed 2,769,148 shares were paid to acquire Hotmail, worth more than $ 6 billion when you consider stock splits?

Anyway, quotes:

  • “From the first moment I met him, Sabeer Bhatia praised the power of the idea. The idea was so convincing that Sabeer heard a sentence about it when his friend and colleague Jack Smith, who was driving to Livermore, called Sabeer on his car phone to collect the pregnant thought that had just crossed his mind – mine! Hang up the cell phone and call me back on a secure line when you get to your home! We don’t want anyone to overhear! “
  • “He stayed up all night writing the business plan he brought to his day job the next morning to show Jack and looked so emaciated that his boss stopped him and said,” You have to skip the partying, Sabeer . “And Sabeer – feared the idea might jump out of his mouth if he even opened it – just nodded. He was afraid to make a single photocopy of the printed plan so that a stray page would not end up in the wastebasket and then someone else’s eyes. “
