Airtel Thanks app to blame?

Some Xiaomi phones in India will boot loop after installing a recent MIUI 12 update. Now it appears that the culprit has been identified and luckily it is not hardware related.
A software conflict between Xiaomi’s Find My Device service and Airtel’s Thanks SIM management app (h / t: XDA) seems to be to blame. The nature of the problem is unclear, but affected users have reported error messages on their devices, followed by ongoing boot processes. According to Reddit users, a number of Xiaomi phones are currently affected, including the Redmi Note 7, the Note 9 Pro Max and the Poco M2 Pro.
Airtels CIO Harmeen Mehta has confirmed that the problem appears to be with the Thanks app and that the Indian cellular network is working with Xiaomi on a concrete solution. In the meantime, a “small change” has been made to reduce the negative impact.
According to Xiaomi, a more permanent fix is expected to be available early next week, while some users may need to get the fix at their nearest service centers.
There doesn’t seem to be a permanent workaround at this time. Some problem solvers are unable to access settings quickly enough between startups. People with faster fingers or slower devices recommend uninstalling the Airtel Thanks app or removing their SIM cards to solve the problem.
