Acer’s new Predator gaming laptops pack mini-LED displays

It wouldn’t be an Acer laptop launch without gaming systems, and 2021 is no exception. Acer adds two new Predator models, the Triton 500 SE (above) and the Helios 500 (below) that revolve around their mini-LED display technology.

The mini-LED panels of the slim 16-inch Triton and the thicker 17.3-inch Helios offer the expected higher contrast ratios, not to mention the extreme brightness even at high resolutions. A max Helios with a 4K screen at 120 Hz can still reach the equivalent of DisplayHDR 1000 (around 1,000 nits) while the Triton screen at 2,560 x 1,600 165 Hz can reach 1,250 nits. Another summer makes it easy for you to play games on either of Acer’s two gaming laptops on a bright summer’s day.

You can also compromise. According to Acer, the Triton gaming laptop can be equipped with a 240 Hz (2560 x 1600) screen when responsiveness is more important than brightness. The Helios system has the option of a 360 Hz 1080p panel.

Acer also equips the two gaming laptop models with 11th generation Core processors (up to a Core i9) and GeForce RTX 3080 graphics, killer Wi-Fi 6 or 6e networks and up to 64 GB of RAM. Either up to 2 TB of NVMe SSD storage can be stored in a RAID 0 strip, and you will find two Thunderbolt 4 ports and USB 3.2 Gen 2. The Helios even has a 5G option for games on the go.

As can be seen from the specs, Acer will charge a premium for both gaming laptops. The Predator Triton 500 SE will reach the US in June from $ 1,749.99 (1,999 euros for a European market launch in July), while the Helios 500 will come to Europe for the first time in June with a price of 2,499 euros and in August for 2,499 euros. Ships $ 99 to North America. These are far from trivial and do not include any AMD Ryzen-based options. Even so, you probably won’t impact performance or display quality.
