Acer has another entry in its popular range of Chromebooks, this time from its Spin brand. The Acer Chromebook Spin 514 is the company’s first such Chromebook to use both mobile processors and graphics chips from AMD.
The Chromebook Spin 514 model can be purchased with either the AMD Ryzen 7 3700C or the Ryzen 5 3500C quad-core processor. Both will also include AMD’s Radeon Vega graphics chips for mobile devices for faster performance.
As with other Spin models, the 14-inch touchscreen display of the Chromebook Spin 514 (1,920 x 1,080) can be rotated 360 degrees. This allows it to be used in a variety of formats, including the traditional laptop, or as a large tablet. It weighs only 3.42 pounds and is only 17.35 mm thick.
The Chromebook is made from anodized, sandblasted aluminum and has a MIL-STD-810H rating for durability. It’s designed to keep working even if dropped from a height of 48 inches and withstand up to 132 pounds of downward force. In addition, the display is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass to protect it from scratches.
