A Redmi 9A upgrade? Redmi 9i arrives in India with more RAM, storage

If you are having trouble keeping up with the Redmi 9 series devices that have been launched in the past two months, we do not blame you. Now you need to know the name of another one after Xiaomi launched the Redmi 9i in India.
Despite the new nickname, the Redmi 9i is supposedly a Redmi 9A on paper and in flesh, RAM and storage fans aside. The minimum amount of RAM is now set to 4GB, while 64GB of storage is also the lowest you can use on the Redmi 9i. That combo includes a MediaTek Helio G25 connected to a 5,000 mAh battery, a dual SIM slot and a dedicated microSD card slot.
The Redmi 9i has a 6.53-inch display with a resolution of 1,600 x 720 and a bezel that is quite large compared to its contemporaries. There is also a 5-megapixel selfie camera at the top of the bezel that sits in a water-drop notch. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack, while users only get a 13-megapixel camera on the back. It runs Android 10 with Xiaomi’s MIUI skin on top.
Redmi 9i: price and availability in India
The Redmi 9i will go on sale starting September 18 at 12:00 PM EST (2:30 PM ET) at Flipkart, Xiaomi’s online store, and other retailers. There are three color options available, including Midnight Black, Nature Green and Sea Blue.
The 64 GB storage model starts at Rs 8,299 (~ USD 113) while the 128 GB variant costs Rs 9,299 (~ USD 126).
That’s a mild premium over the Redmi 9A sibling, but this phone is effectively a slightly improved 9A. Even so, in the sub Rs 10,000 price range, there is a lot of competition from other companies vying for your business.
