A OnePlus 9 prototype reportedly sold for $6,000 on eBay

Do you remember the leak in mid-December that showed live photos of the OnePlus 9? It’s back – and the device may have changed hands. XDA‘s Mishaal Rahman and Android police Report that eBay user Shamete1 listed the prototype of the phone at auction and sold it for $ 6,000.
The eBay photos are from the same OnePlus 9 device as in a PhoneArena Leak, just without the watermark. They suggest a relatively conservative design tweak over the 8T, with the most noticeable change being a large camera bump with three lenses and the “Ultra Shot” logo (possibly an echo of Oppos’s “Ultra Steady”). Previous rumors said the phone used 48-megapixel primary and ultra-wide cameras, as well as a smaller third rear sensor.

The seller also briefly added photos showing the OnePlus 9 running the latest Android 11-based version of Oxygen OS, although those recordings have since been deleted from eBay’s list (likely with device identifiers).
It is not certain that the eBay device was authentic. It is possible that someone had the unedited leak photos and was simply using them to scam potential OnePlus 9 buyers on eBay. However, this was an extremely risky purchase even if the phone is real. As Shamete1 warned, OnePlus can do whatever it wants – it could remotely disable the phone or send law enforcement agencies after the buyer.
As real as this hardware is, you will likely need to be patient with any type of confirmation. According to rumors, OnePlus will not release the 9 until mid-March. This also assumes that there are no changes. While many phone manufacturers are locking their designs in the last few months before launch, we cannot completely rule out last minute changes.
