A lightweight phone for selfie enthusiasts
TL; DR
- Xiaomi has launched its new Civi smartphone in China.
- The device appears to be a successor to the CC series.
- Expect a sleek, lightweight design and a focus on selfies.
Xiaomi teased a new smartphone called the Civi earlier this month, with images below showing a design-led phone similar to the CC series. Now the company has officially launched this device in its home market of China.
The Xiaomi Civi weighs only 166 grams and is 6.9 mm thin and 71.5 mm wide, which is reminiscent of the similarly light and slim Mi 11 Lite. So if you are looking for a more ergonomic phone, you should keep this one in mind.
The rest of the Civi is pretty solid too, with a Snapdragon 778G chipset, 6.55-inch 120Hz FHD + OLED panel, and a 4,500mAh battery with a 55W charging cable. Xiaomi’s newest phone also features a triple rear camera system, namely a 64 MP main shooter, an 8 MP ultra-wide camera (120 degree field of view) and a 2 MP macro lens.
The Chinese manufacturer is also bringing a 32-megapixel camera into a centrally mounted punch-hole section with autofocus. Xiaomi claims that the selfie camera has pixel-level skin restoration capabilities. However, a comparison published by Xiaomi suggests that this boils down to aggressively removing blemishes and boosting the skin-smoothing effect. Check out this comparison below.
Xiaomi’s Civi will go on sale in China from September 30th. Expect to pay 2,599 yuan (~ $ 402) for the 8GB / 128GB model, 2,899 yuan (~ $ 449) for the 8GB / 256GB variant, and 3,199 yuan (~ $ 495) for the Pay 12GB / 256GB model.
We asked Xiaomi if the Civi will hit global markets and we will update the article when / when it reaches us. For its value, the Mi CC9 Pro eventually hit global markets as the Mi Note 10 series device, while the Mi CC9e received standard Android and came to wider markets as the Mi A3. So it stands to reason that the Xiaomi Civi will get a rebranding if it ever leaves China.
