TL; DR

  • HMD Global announced the launch of a more durable Nokia smartphone.
  • The company claims you don’t need a case for this new device.

Nokia brand licensee HMD Global launched a variety of mid-range and low-end phones as part of the X, G, and C series earlier this year, but otherwise it was relatively quiet. Now the company is promising something for fans of durable smartphones.

“With our latest Nokia phone, you’ll never need a case again,” the company stated in a picture posted on twitter. The tweet also hints at a launch date for the new device on July 27th. Check it out below.

We’re not sure if the phone in the picture is representative of the upcoming HMD device. However, we hope we’re looking for a rugged device that can withstand rough handling and water ingress, as opposed to a harder plastic design. On the other hand, the classic Nokia 3310 was not waterproof, but it has earned the reputation of an absolute tank.

foneArena believes the upcoming device could be what appears to be the Nokia XR20. This is supposed to be a rugged version of the Nokia X20 and is said to have appeared on GeekBench recently (although we take benchmark lists with caution). The original X20 was launched with a Snapdragon 480 5G SoC, a 64 MP main camera, and a 4,470 mAh battery. So it stands to reason that the new device could share some of these features.
