One of my favorite episodes of “The Office” is called Launch Party. During this episode, Dunder Mifflin is hosting a company party as well as several satellite parties when the website launches. There is serenity.
But during your corporate event, you probably don’t want to kidnap the pizza delivery boy, and you may want to spell start correctly on the sign.
As a company, there are likely several corporate events on the horizon, whether it’s a team building event or a seminar.
In this post, we’ll learn about the different types of corporate events and give your party planning committee some virtual event ideas.
Corporate events
Corporate events are events that are sponsored and organized by a company. You can invite employees, stakeholders, or customers depending on the type of event you’re hosting. You can host a corporate event when you launch a new product or raise money for a charity.
Now let’s dive into the different types of corporate events.
Types of corporate events
- Seminars
- Retreats
- team building
- Milestones
- Opening ceremony
- Fundraising
- Recognition Events
1. Seminars
A seminar is an event that focuses on educating people, whether it’s your customers or employees. It’s similar to a conference or workshop.
A seminar is usually a short event, while a conference can be a multi-speaker event lasting several days. On the other hand, a workshop is usually a small, intimate event with only a few registrants.
You can host a seminar to get leads and introduce people to your company.
2. Withdrawals
A retreat can be held to easily connect with your team, or you can sell tickets to clients. This is usually a multi-day event with multiple workshops or seminars.
Sometimes it’s just about relaxing, sometimes it’s about learning, developing strategies, and planning for the future.
3. Team building
Team building events are designed to boost team morale and help people learn to work together. Usually these are joint events where teams have to work together to solve something. It could be a high ropes course or maybe an escape room.
Sometimes these events can even be formal if you prefer. For example, you could run a workshop on psychological safety or sensitivity training.
4. Milestones
Has your company just reached a sales target? Or is it about to have a big anniversary? In any case, it is nice to celebrate with a company event.
These are similar to appreciation events (more on this below) where you can thank your team for reaching the milestone.
5. Start the party
A launch party is when you host a corporate event for the launch of something: your business, a product, a website (like “The Office”), etc.
These are celebratory events that are usually meant to get the release of something going. Think of Apple’s big launch announcements.
6. Fundraising
A fundraiser is usually designed to raise money for charity. Or sometimes it helps to raise money for your business. These are usually concerts, golf tournaments, dinners, or festivals.
7. Appreciation Events
An appreciation event should thank your customers, partners or employees. These are usually fun events like Christmas parties, private concerts, or a special dinner.
The goal is to spend informal time showing people how much you value and care about the value they bring to your business.
Best ideas for virtual company events
- MasterChef virtual team building event
- Airbnb Online Experience Appreciation Event
- Mystery Dinner Partner Event
- Professional development workshop
- Splash webinar
1st Virtual MasterChef team building event
A great team building event for companies is hosting a Virtual MasterChef. To do this, you can host a person and send out a list of ingredients (or modified ingredients for dietary restrictions) and consumables.
The night you host the event, everyone dials into Zoom and cooks the same meal while the host walks them through the recipe.
When everyone is done, you can have a virtual dinner party together. This is a great informal team building event where your team can hang out and get to know each other.
2. Airbnb Online Experience Appreciation Event
One of my favorite corporate virtual events that I’ve researched is the Airbnb experiences. At Airbnb, hosts host virtual events that you can book for your team.
This is a great idea for an appreciation event for any team, customer, or partner. There are scavenger hunts, drag shows, and even secluded escape rooms.
3rd Mystery Dinner Partner Event
Mystery dinners are a fun way to treat your partner. You can get partners to sign up for mystery dinners. Every month you can randomly choose a partner and then invite those partners to a mysterious dinner party.
This can even be virtual if needed and is a great way to show appreciation for your partners and get to know them.
4th workshop on professional development
The classic company event is a workshop for professional development. You can find workshops like the Disney Institute and let your team learn from the experts. This shows appreciation, but is also a great learning opportunity.
5. Splash webinar
If you need software to host a virtual corporate event, Splash is a great product for you. Suppose you want to host a webinar? You can do this on Splash. This helps with the registration process, invitations, virtual waiting rooms and even post-event content. Everything you need for a corporate webinar is in this software.
Hosting a corporate event is a great way to boost morale, get to know your team, show appreciation, and even grow your business. Hosting virtual events has never been easier.
