60% of total Galaxy S21 series production devoted to base S21
- Samsung will reportedly focus more on the base Galaxy S21 than its more expensive siblings.
- 60% of its production capacity has been dedicated to the vanilla model.
- According to reports, the price of the Galaxy S21 series in South Korea will fall below the Galaxy S20 line.
After years of steadily rising prices for its flagships and advancing its high-end models, Samsung could finally turn a corner with the Galaxy S21 series. According to a report from Korea, the company is slashing local prices for its next flagship line while also opting for the cheapest competitor to lead the line.
ETNews reports that Samsung hopes the Galaxy S21 model will be its biggest seller. Apparently, it will also put most of its factory resources into the base model, allocating 60% of its production capacity to the cheapest S21 device. Samsung is also slated to slash the price of this model to 990,000 won (~ $ 909) – a fair decrease from the 1.248 million won (~ $ 1,146) Galaxy S20.

This price-cutting strategy will apparently continue into the rest of the series. The Galaxy S21 Plus will also be cheaper than the Galaxy S20 Plus in South Korea, priced at 1.199 million won (~ $ 1,104), according to the report. The Galaxy S21 Ultra will retail for 1.595 million won (~ $ 1,469). Both models are said to be around 100,000 won cheaper than their predecessors.
Galaxy S21 production: base is best?
The reason for the adjusted price and production surge is to contain the iPhone 12 series and close the gap in the market that Huawei has left each year ETNews. Samsung can also be encouraged by the popularity of the Galaxy S20 FE – a key device for the company’s cheaper flagship.
It could be argued that Samsung’s new focus on its cheaper model highlights the irrelevance of the Plus and Ultra models, but both variants still have their own features to offer. Samsung’s Ultra model will likely be the only option in the Galaxy S21 series with a 108-megapixel camera, 5,000 mAh battery, and S-Pen support. Rumor has it that the Plus model will also have a battery upgrade to 4,800 mAh. Both models make the basic Galaxy S21 an attractive offer if the focus is on the price and not the functions.
It’s unclear whether the company will similarly lower prices for the Galaxy S21 series in other global markets. However, more will be announced when the device line hits the market on January 14, 2021.
